Mestalla squeezes but does not drown Atlético

first_imgPhoto: EFE Valencia and Atlético de Madrid signed tables (2-2) this Friday at the start of the 24th day of LaLiga Santander held in Mestalla, an intense exchange that better finished the local team, for a scarce distribution of points in the objective of the area high.Diego Pablo Simeone’s were twice ahead, but it was not enough to take the victory against a Valencia that did not throw in the towel, from less to more, to keep impregnable Mestalla. The point leaves the fourth position of Atleti in the air, giving air to Seville and Real Sociedad, and prevents the escalation of Valencia. Those of Celades finished better, owners of the second part, but forgave good chances. The ‘Top 4’ continues to get expensive and both teams will face Champions League week, against Liverpool the rojiblancos and Atalanta the ‘che’, in the middle of the want and I can not of its irregular moment. The Mestalla test left an Atlético worse taste that ended up at the mercy of the rival. The heavyweight clash of LaLiga gradually became warm after 10 minutes of inaccuracies and no areas. The Atleti, well positioned, found Vitolo and Correa together in the right wing and Valencia neglected the greatest danger of the rival. The company left the auction of the Argentine already in the area, with a favorable rejection to Llorente to debut as a scorer (1-0).The ‘che’ box had a harder time coming into play, amid visiting pressure, and was still in the dangerous line of his last defeat against Getafe. Based on a stopped ball and a game by bands, Celades’ team was cracking the wall. And it is that the Atleti at times was hard to peel, but not like that of yesteryear. The boarding schools of Gayá and Wass or the center in Parejo fouls and corners showed the local physical power. Intense draw before the return of the Champions Leaguecenter_img In a corner kick came Paulista’s tie in the 40 ‘, which put Parejo to the second stick and put the pot Maxi, but Atleti had the immediate reaction of Thomas’s goal. The Ghanaian midfielder stole the ball from Parejo and with power and overflow came to the front to shoot Jaume. The team ‘che’, Mestalla and what he saw in the first half demanded a step forward and he succeeded.Valencia squeezes and forgives Those of Celades already appeared with Ferran in the resumption and, at the time of meeting, Kondogbia fortunately hunted a good center of Parejo to tie again (2-2). Again the ball stopped to punish an Atleti who had already backed down on his field and was beginning to lose sight of the rival goal with Valencia grown. The ‘Cholo’ put Morata and shortly thereafter Carrasco, but the rojiblanco team suffered the local thrust.Gameiro, who improved a Guedes looking for his best version after injury, forgave a pass from the death of Ferran, again protagonist in Valencia breaking through the right wing to Saul. The midfielder suffered relegated once again to the band but the Valencian centers did not find the network. Maxi forgave the same play. Like an oasis, Morata appeared in the desert with a head shot taken by Jaume. The tie was worthless to anyone.Thomas was the most dangerous for Mestalla, looking for another blow from outside the area, but the local team continued to tilt the field, forgiving the latter with Gayá and lamenting the possible injury of Gabriel Paulista in the discount. The match ended null before listening to the symphony of the ‘Champions’ in the Metropolitan and at the home of the Italian Atalanta.DATA SHEETVALENCIA: Jaume; Wass, Gabriel (Diakhaby, min. 93), Mangala, Gayá; Ferran Torres, Kondogbia, Parejo, Carlos Soler (Cheryshev, min. 80); Maxi Gómez y Guedes (Gameiro, min. 60).ATHLETIC OF MADRID: Oblak; Arias (Morata, min. 66), Savic, Felipe, Lodi (Vrsaljko, min. 53); Llorente, Thomas, Koke (Carrasco, min. 76), Saul; Vitolo and Correa.– GOALS:0 – 1, min. 15, Llorente.1 – 1, min. 40, Paulista.1 – 2, min. 42, Thomas.2 – 2, min. 59, Kondogbia.– ARBITRATOR: Medié Jiménez (C. A low James

first_img2014-15Real Madrid2,414 2018-19Bayern1,21144 Like in a dead end, James had to return to Madrid in July. Bayern had let their purchase option pass and in the white club they found a problem: Zidane insisted that he leave and no team, neither Atlético nor Nápoles, put for him the around 40 million (his valuation today at Transfermarkt) that Madrid asked for. That forced its continuity, with a few devastating months: 680 minutes, 1 goal and 2 assists. In the offices they maintained a certain faith in January, although now two ecapes are presented that could please everyone: the Premier and the Serie A. James Rodríguez (28 years old) has hit rock bottom at Real Madrid. Never since his arrival at the Bernabéu had his data been so low in March, when the competition for the coronavirus stopped. So far his records had been the worst in minutes played, number of goals and assists. Zidane, who is joined by a strictly professional relationship, does not have him. The club, either. And in England and Italy, as AS recounted, they think of him. At that same point in 2015-16 he had dropped to 1,406 minutes, 6 goals and 8 goal passes. In 2016-17, another almost general decline: 1,247 minutes, 5 goals and 11 assists. In fact, the crack that began to open that summer between James and Zidane ended the Colombian in Munich. But Bayern did not serve as a springboard in 2017-2018: in March his participation had increased but his offensive contribution had decreased. And it did not lift the situation in Germany in 2018-19 either. He left his ceiling in the season of his signing, 2014-2015. So even in March I had had 2,414 minutes (71.3% more than at present), scored 12 goals and distributed 10 assists. The investment of 80 million euros in him, which had fallen on its feet at the Bernabéu, was perceived as more than justified. But nothing was the same from then on.JAMES, UNTIL MARCH 8last_img read more

Omino wins Coach of the Month June/July

first_imgOmino, who has since been promoted to the role of Technical Director at Western Stima edged Bandari’s Paul Nkata to win the award in a vote taken by Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Football Commission. With the month of June only having one match, the panelist combined the months of June and July to settle on the winner.Fondly referred to as Zagallo, Omino led Western Stima to a joint highest points haul over the months as they defeated defending champions Tusker FC and AFC Leopards by solitary goals, then  snatched a point away to Bandari following a scoreless draw with their single loss coming at the hands of Muhoroni Youth.Stima’s seven points haul were matched by Bandari who nicked victories over Tusker and Sony Sugar, drew with Stima and lost to AFC leopards. Lots cast for the duo saw Omino win with a landslide over Nkata.Western Stima Technical Director Henry Omino. Photo/RAYMOND MAKHAYAHe becomes the third recipient of the gong this year and the only tactician to win it more than once since its inception last year. Posta Rangers’ Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omolo and George ‘Best’ Nsimbe of Tusker respectively won the April and May accolades while former Gor Mahia tactician Jose Marcelo Ze Maria picked the first award in March.Omino took home a cash prize of Sh75, 000 courtesy Fidelity Insurance in addition to the personalized trophy.Stima are on the wane this season having finished 6th in the league last season, their highest ever position last year and Omino, is confident that his recognition can spur a late revival.“This award is not my own making but the players who put in plenty of hard work to see the club obtain seven points. We were low on the table and things were not working well for us but they kept their discipline and ensured we beat the defending champions Tusker, our regular customers AFC Leopards and got a draw in Mombasa. The Muhoroni loss was unfortunate but we did well and I dedicate this to the entire team,” Omino remarked following his crowning after the team’s training at the Moi Kisumu Stadium. The veteran is working closely with newly installed coach Makumbi to ensure Stima steers clear from relegation area and into a respectable zone.“I have been in the game long enough to know that sometime you need an outside eye to rectify internal things. That is why I’m working well with the new coach to see the club climb up the table. There are no ill feelings and everyone is doing his role.” He said.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Western Stima Technical Director Henry Omino receiving the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the month award for June/July.NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 28 – Western Stima’s veteran tactician Henry Omino has belatedly been named the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for June/July.The 66-year-old claimed the award for an unprecedented third time having scooped it twice in 2016.last_img read more

Relegation woes for Harambee Stars trio

first_img0Shares0000Olunga joined Reysol after a season-long loan stint with Spanish top tier side FC Girona.NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 26 – Harambee Stars trio Michael Olunga, David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng and Eric Johannah endured heartbreaking relegation over the weekend after their respective clubs suffered the chop from the top tier leagues.Olunga’s Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol was relegated from the J-1 league while Ochieng and Johannah’s Swedish club IF Bromma were axed from the Swedish top tier. Reysol’s relegation from the J-1 League was confirmed after their competitors Shonan Bellmare, Sagan Tosu and Nagoya Grampus all won their penultimate games of the season to move to 40 points, creating an unassailable four point lead with one match left.“It is tough because everyone wants to play in the top league, but we will work hard to bounce back. I know I will bounce back in a big way,” Olunga told Capital Sport. The striker could not do much to aid Reysol’s campaign to avoid the chop having joined them in August and in that period has managed to play in 10 games and scored three goals with an equal number of assists for the club.He joined Reysol after a season-long loan stint with Spanish top tier side FC Girona.Harambee Stars midfielder Eric Johana was once named the best player of the month for his IF Brommapojkarna club. Photo/COURTESYMeanwhile, Omondi and Ochieng were relegated with Bromma, a club that was just promoted from the second tier at the beginning of the season.Bromma lost the relegation and promotion play-off on goal difference to second tier side AFC Ekilstuna after a 2-2 draw on aggregate in the two-legged play-off.They had won the first leg 1-0 away from home, but ended up losing the second leg 2-1 at home.“It has been a tough season and seeing it end this way is not kind enough. LPGA is clear: Lewis isn’t a winner

first_imgOnly 32 players hadn’t finished when play resumed Sunday, and the final day was closed to the public. Lewis, an amateur who plays college golf at nearby Arkansas, finished her first round the previous day at 7-under 65. “Yesterday was just a roller coaster of emotions,” Lewis said. “Going from playing my best competitive round ever to – it kind of felt like a knife in your heart. You don’t get a chance to win.” The LPGA was pretty clear on that point. Lewis, the NCAA champion, isn’t considered an official winner because the tournament did not last at least 36 holes. “From the LPGA’s standpoint, this is not a tournament,” said Doug Brecht, the LPGA’s vice president of rules and officials. “It’s extremely unfortunate, obviously, for a lot of different reasons. … It’s obviously not official, and we just don’t consider it an event at all.” The tournament began 4 hours late Friday, and play was suspended again around 11 a.m. Saturday. Rain wasn’t a problem Sunday morning, and the sun even came out from behind the clouds – but the LPGA had already decided Saturday the event would end after one round. Tournament organizers cited dangerous course conditions caused by heavy rain as a reason for keeping fans away Sunday. On Saturday, the course was flooded in spots and full of large puddles. Those problems were mostly taken care of by Sunday, but the course was still quite soggy. Jin Young Pak was the only player with a reasonable chance to catch Lewis. Pak, a rookie, started her first round Friday and finally finished it Sunday. She birdied No. 7 – her 16th hole – to move within one of the leader. A bogey on No. 8 dropped her back. Walker Cup Jonathan Moore hit a 4-iron into 4 feet for eagle on the 18th hole to give the Americans the final point they needed to capture the Walker Cup in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, the first time in 16 years they have won away from home. The Americans won the Walker Cup for the second straight year against Britain and Ireland and hold a 33-7-1 record in the series. European Masters Brett Rumford holed a 30-foot chip from the fringe on the first hole of a playoff with Phillip Archer to win in Crans-Sour-Sierre, Switzerland.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Lewis was the first-round leader at the rain-shortened LPGA NW Arkansas Championship on Sunday – and she’ll have to settle for that. The LPGA Tour shortened the Rogers, Ark., event from 54 holes to 18, setting up a strange finish on a nearly empty course at Pinnacle Country Club. last_img read more

PML Daily Premier League team of game week 24

first_imgAlmost no one put up a mind blowing performance in game week 24 of the Premier league despite one grabbing a hat trick and another deciding a game in the 33 minutes he was on the pitch. Here are the eleven players who make the cut in our latest edition of team of the week as selected by PML Daily correspondent Shaban Lubega.Nacho Monreal made two assists and scored one goal in the 33 minutes he played against Crystal Palace. Courtesy photo. 9. Sergio Aguero(Man City). With the lengthy absence of Gabriel Jesus, Aguero now has the liberty to play week in week out and against a Newcastle side that was always going to defend for their lives, the Argentine had to deliver especially after that loss to Liverpool. And deliver he did, scoring all three as the Citizens made sure that they retain their 12 point lead at the top of the league.10. Edin Hazard(Chelsea). He played like the best players in the league that he is supposed to be. His second goal was one that can be scored with a player of immense quality, running half the length of the pitch and slotting in expertly. Chelsea can only hope he can replicate such a performance at the business end of the season because if he does, he can push the team to their desired objectives indeed.11. Mesut Ozil. The assist for Alexander Lacazzatte’s goal was a remind of what Arsenal may be set to miss out on that is if the German departs come next summer but it was not it all as Ozil put on quite a show thought the game. It was one of those performances that deserved at least a goal. Composed in the middle and at the center of all that Arsenal created minus the set plays.Coach: Paul Lambert.Although none of his players make the cut in our team of the week, Paul Lambert who has been away from the league for almost three years made a come back for him to remember as he guided his new side(Stock City) to its first three points in almost a month. Whether he keeps the Porters in the league this season remains a mystery but more of the same from his team like what they produced against Huddersfield will surely propel them up the table.Comments 5. Harry Maguire(Leicester).Against Watford, their was always an asurajnce that Kasper Schumicheal and Leicester was going to get a clean sheet and it was all down to one man, Harry Maguire. Coming off an impressive performance against Chelsea, Maguire put in another for a second game running. The big Englishman is putting in perfomances game in game out that will surely make his a feature in the England team that will travel to Russia come June.6.Grzegorz Krychowiak.Going to Goodison Park and taking on an Everton side in need of points in not an easy task especially when you are tasked with making things happen in the center of the pitch buy Krychowiak did just that and the pass to release Jay Rodriguez for the opener was just sublime. With the out side of his right foot and perfectly weighed, you can not see a better pass all weekend than what the Pol produced. The former Sevilla captain didn’t stop at that as he controlled the play on route to his team getting a vital point away from home.7. Ryad Mahrez. One of the most inform players in the league since the turn of the year and his constant running towards the Watford goal this past weekend was a constant night mare for the opposition defenders. On another day, he may have scored two or three but the one he got would surely propel him in the team of the week.8. Kevin De Bryne.(Man City). The catalyst of Man City’s play and attack took it all to him self against Newcastle and delivered in a performance that could only be bettered by hat trick hero Aguero. The wipe on the cross for Aguero’s first is what he has keep on doing all season long and if Guardiola was asking for a response from his star players after the 4-3 loss to Liverpool, De Bryne gave his just what he was craving for.Sergio Aguero was the only player to score a hat-trick over the weekend in the Premier League.Courtesy photo. 1. Willy Cabalero(Chelsea).First-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is out with an ankle injury but the way Caballero has performed must have manager Antonio Conte considering sticking with the South American in the short term. He was lucky not to concede two penalties but that save to deny Tomer Hemed was arguably the save of the weekend and in a game week where the saves where few and rare, couldn’t resist to put him in between the sticks. 2.  Victor Moses(Chelsea). The lengthy lay off at the start of the season may have taken him back a little but his performance against Brighton reminded all Chelsea fans about the quality he posses running all day at the right flank. He was the architect of Hazard’s first goal and took his and the team’s fourth in a way even a world class striker could have been proud of.3. Nacho Monreal(Arsenal). The 33 minutes he was on the pitch against Crystal Palace, his impact was enough to to win the Gunners their first game in six across all competitions. He made two assists and scored his third of the season as Arsenal ran out 4-1 winners.4. Jack Stephans(Southampton). That block to deny Erick Lamela with six minutes to go was as good as they got this past weekend. He was unlucky not to score from a header in the first half as Spurs’ keeper Hugo Lloris was rooted in one spot but the effort missed the target. The young English international has been a revolution of sorts this season playing a big part of it along side Maya Yoshida and what a players he may turn out to be in the near future that’s if he keeps on shutting out opposition like he did against Tottenham.Edin Hazard put out arguably his best performance all season as Chelsea cruised to a 4-0 win at Brighton. Tigerair Bali flights grounded

first_imgThe grounding of Tigerair’s operations to Bali has been extended for the next seven days as a war of words erupts between the airline and Indonesian aviation authorities. However, the airline is able to bring passengers back to Australia from the holiday island for the next four days.Tigerair chief executive Rob Sharp accused the Indonesians of not honouring a 12-month agreement struck in March last year. That agreement allowed Tigerair to lease planes and crew from its parent Virgin Australia (wet- lease) and operate to Bali from Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne. The only caveat was it was not able to sell tickets in Bali to those Australian destinations. However, according to sources in Jakarta, the Indonesians have moved the oversight of the agreement from the department that looks after normal regular passenger flights to the charter area. Thus the Indonesians have changed the rules by which the airline operates to Bali and thus it is technically in breach. However, almost all airlines lease planes from leasing companies, banks and other airlines often with crew – particularly pilots.Yesterday Mr Sharp said, “Tigerair Australia currently has approval from The Director General Air Communication and Director Air Transport to operate between Australia and Bali until 25 March 2017.”“This involves selling tickets in Australia between Australia and Bali. Under the existing agreement, we are not able to sell tickets in Indonesia and we are fully compliant with this.”Mr Sharp added, “we are not proposing any changes to the agreement – we are operating under the same approval we have been for the last 8 months.”The airline said it is striving to work through the new requirements but may have to use a different arrangement with its own shorter ranged A320s but this will take two weeks to put in place.Tigerair said it is doing everything it can to support its passengers, including transferring them to Virgin Australia flights, providing accommodation and refunds. “We understand this is a busy period during school holidays and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused,” said Mr Sharp. All other Tigerair flights (all domestic services) remain unaffected by this decisionlast_img read more
